Source from: http://pagingdrgupta.blogs.cnn.com/2010/10/18/do-violent-movies-games-make-teens-aggressive/
This article have a common title and the content inside is too complicated to understand for publics. I think the author wants to draw audience concern in how the video games can bring the negative effects to the teenagers. However they did not focus on the games, they just showed the academic research about giving the test to people to watch the violent movies and even give them an electron shock. This article reports in a high content way which means not direct enough, I think there are some ways to make it better.

On the other hand, the body of the news is quite good individually, it gives us new concepts about violent, the evidence in the article is powerful.

This article can help more parents and teenagers themselves to understand more about what violent environment is. The violent video games and clips are not only funny, they harms teenagers in mentally. The new and fresh idea that not everyone knows will give reader awareness.

For the other audiences, it shows a signal. Even they are over eighteen, the violent can cause incredible consequences to them and the society.

The article is written to the public, the effort used in can be good examples. It gives the incontestable reference to the topic. The content is related to most people and most important is it showed another perspective on the topic.

Despite the fact that the topic of this article is not match the body, the content is useful and the way author used to write has a credit. It is worth to read and spend a little time to think about the topic.

When a bullied kid grows up

Again, this time is the headline which attracts my attention, it likes a query leave to the audience to answer, to explore, to see what is the lives of the boy who grow up in the bullies, who did it to him, why he sufferred this painful experience. the link: http://edition.cnn.com/2010/HEALTH/10/08/bullying.health.effects/index.html

The boy's name is Mike Sarkany, through the picture of him, it's hard to imagine this pretty boy in the left side was the one who has a darkness childhood: when that time, he was 5 grade, other children mistreated him at school -- beating him up on the playground, blocking his way in the hall, throwing balls a little too hard. No one believed him. Although the teacher asked him to tand up for himeself, he had no idea how to do with it, he felt helpless, even now, he is 57 years old, he still couldn't get rip of the darkness memory in his deepest heart. He lives alone, and minimize in the biggest extent of getting in touch with others because he still scare being mistreated, undoubtedly, the blue childhood time leaves him the irreplaceable harm.

The report use this story as a beginning, leading the following further discussion, in fact, a lot of people have ever sufferred the bully experence, and there are several examples of other people with similar experence, some even thought about suicide. Through this examples, it's easy to justify that no matter what kind of bully experence will influence a person's whole life. Therefore, the teenagers bully is becoming a more and more important social problem, which can not be avoided, it needs the cooperation of both the school and family and it is not just confined in school

Obese staff cost US firms $US73bn a year

I have written the similar topic concerning obese and lose weight before, while I have to say this is an endless topic among general public, especially in the group of women, someone said that woman spents their entire life to struggle to the unwanted weight, and it's more than true, every girl dreams they can wear like the super model, but most of them can only frown to the tumid shape in the mirror. It is the headline of this news which attracts me then decided to use it as the source of this blog: "Obese staff cost US firms $73bn a year".
Undoubtedly, it's a startle figure which change the comon sense of the obese of most people. According to the report, the biggest cause of losing quite a bit money is "presenteeism" and absence from work, obese works are believed to contribute less productive since the health problems. The report gives a lot of figures from a researcher team, they trail the obesity full time workers, to tally their medical expenditures, presenteeism and absence from work to put a dollar figure on the per capita. It says the per capita cost of obesity was as high as $US16,900 ($17,240) a year for the women who is overweigh 45kg than average, and the men with BMI more than 40. The number was compared to around $US10,000 ($10,200) a year of the normal weigh people.

As known by the general public, America has more and more obese problem due to the fast food and high calorie food. Thus, incredibly, this report reveals that one in four American have the problem of obese. This report use an interesting but very convincing angle to alarm the whole world not just America be aware of the increasing problem: obese!

Since I'm a big big fans of photograph, and usually take my camera with me to everywhere, thus I like to appreciate every masterpiece photo, the strong colorful shock can usually attract my eyeball, especially the microspur style picture. Also, when brosing the website, I intend to read the photo gallery style story, just like the one I choose this week: Receipts for health http://www.nytimes.com/slideshow/2009/07/13/health/nutrition/20090713_RFHPANTRY_index.html
About the content:
There are 10 photoes in total in this story, each photo is accompany by the name and a short explanation which contains ingredients and flavor of the dilicious food, besides, it adds the photographer's name. Food is always the most essential component ensuring people's health, no matter in physical or in psychological. There is an saying that a delicacy should contain scent, color and flavour. Apparently, the good looking can always gain people's first favorable impression, just as the delicacy in the photo, it can give you a sunshine mood when you see them. Besides, food is the source to guarantee people's energy and spirit, everyday's healty and nutrition food can keep you away from the disease, as the more and more rapid pace of the nowadays lives, people can barely take good care of themselves' diet, they often get used to eat fast food to squeeze time for their busy work. Therefore, people need this kind of story with colorful photos to allure their eyeball and remind them should slow down their busy step somtimes, to enjoy the lives and take good care of themselves.
About the format
I have to appraise the unique style of this story again, the eye-catching pictures is a fantastic idea to display the delicious food to the readers. But this format is not matching every story, the one with a lot of words can not use this photo gallery style, otherwise, the photos will easily distract readers' attention making them don't know where should be focused.

source from: CNN http://edition.cnn.com/2010/HEALTH/08/30/bipolar.kids/index.html
photo from CNN NEWS
Children is always a group that easily draw general public's attention, this news mainly talks about a typical psychological disease which has been more and more found among children: bipolar disorder.
CNN news website wisely use the picture on the left side in the very beginning of the whole story, in order to catch eyeballs of readers. This adorable girl named Jennifer, she was just 10 years old when she had been diagnosed as bipolar disorder. Undeniable, this is a fabulous opening to tell a tory, it used Jennifer's experence as a beginning, readers will be easily get interesting about the whole story: what is wrong with this girl, how to treat her to become normal as other children, does any other child suffer the same painful things as her? Therfore, the following article gives its demostration toward series queries.
In respect of the content of the whole article, the author used sufficient statistic data and quotation of experts' opinion to justify different perspectives. There are three parts of this story, in the first part, it states the present situation that more and younger kids are receiving diagnoses of and treatment for the bipolar disorder disease, also, there is an illustration of the symtons and cause. One in five gay men in US has HIV

read original news~

It is the headline which attracted my eyes, the figure is incredible, so I have to say the headline of this news is successful. A best headline should catch reader's attention even they just browse the website, so the plain words should be used in the headline. In terms of this news, the author is smart, he understood the number of this news is of the most importance, so it's easier to attract reader's curiosity.

This article begins with a study from Wasington: "one in five sexually active homosexual men in the US has HIV, and almost half of those who carry the virus do not know they are infected." The percentage is even higher compared with the intravenous drug users and heterosexuals. This outcome is obviously in conflict with our common sense that the homosexual is the most highest cause of HIV. This article reveals that comparing different major cities in America, how the number of homosexual men with HIV virus developed in recent years. In terms of the prevalence rate of HIV among men who have sex with men, Baltimore is ranked the first with 38%, and Atlanta was lowest at 6%. Besides, the article gives the figures of other 5 typical districts: Columbia, Atlantic, NY, Philadelphia and Newark. As a result of the comarison, there is a finding that the more impoverished the men were, the higher chance they were to be infected.

With repect to the format, there is no any photo or multi-media in this news, which also is the deficiency of it. In my opinion, a piece of news with eye-catching photo or media will more likely attract readers, also will more directly inform readers what the news is about.

10 ways to strip fat fast

http://health.ninemsn.com.au/slideshow_ajax.aspx?sectionid=9115&sectionname=fitness&subsectionid=6764328&subsectionname=fatslideshow
This is the article that I read in this week, I choose it causes it reminded me about the one knowledge I have learned this week: The importance of design.
The news is mainly talking about 10 ways of ditching the diet and losing fat. Although it's not quite a new topic to notice, but it's always a pinup subject people concern about! Firstly, in terms of the content, it focus on the general direction of strip body fat rather than specific ways to teach you how to calculate your daily calorie or suggest the most effective exercise. Based on this angle, the author, a personal trainer who has ran more than 25,000 personal training sessions through 12 years, proposed the people who eager to lose weight get start from identifying their initial purpose then put into practice. Besides, the small details in your daily lives play a significant role, establishing a healthy dietary structure and exercise habits also help you get rid of corpulent fat effectively.
When I first browsed this online news, I immediately remembered a word impressed me in the class this week: Pyramid. This is a typical Pyramid Navigation Structure. The information is conveyed through a lot of eye-catching photos as a form of image galleries. It links a sequence of pages with back/next links. Users can navigate though a sequence of pages that appear in a certain order, in the bottom of the image, there are sequential navigational small pictures, there will be a small title tags when putting the mouse pointer on the navigational pictures. I think this kind of structure is helpful to allure readers of chasing the words. In addition, in this online information news, every brief advice with a picture and the pictures are placed on the left side which take up 3/4 space. However, everything has two sides, sometimes the cause of disadvantage just is the advantage! Although the large pictures indeed enhance the interesting of reading, it also induces a problem of limited information.

Food for thought: Your brain can make you fat as scientists link obesity to DNA

More and more people concern about their weight in such a society with the aesthetically standard of pursuing never-ending lean. But what distressful is the fact that more and more people are getting overweight of late. When I casually browsed the Mail Online recently, the article concerning the relationship of the obesity and DNA drawn me significantly.
The article reveals a new finding which was conducted by Dr Tamas Horvath of Yale University School of Medicine that the 'propensity for obesity' may be hardwired into the brain while we are in the womb. It's a good release to the crowd who struggle with every pound revealed on the scale!

About the content

The author smartly begins with an exaggerative and humorous situation which most of the fatty will come across in order to attract readers' eyeballs. To be more convincing, the article quotes a study of Dr Tamas Horvath in Yale University School and detailed the experiment about this study: using a group of laboratory rats bred to be vulnerable to obesity, through this experiment, the article explains academically how the brain works to decide when to stop eating and when to do exercise, then it comes an explanation why those who once developed obesity have a harder time losing weight.

Besides the finding from Dr Horvath, there are startling figures of comparison between the obese people in Britain from 1980 to 2000, then estimate a further data in 2020 according the prevalent trend. From this side, I think figures always are the best persuasive evidence to prove a perspective. In the end, the article also mentions about the general reasons from diet experts.

About the format

As known to all, pictures always are the first element that people notice in an online article,
this story has two pictures, one is a lean person's backside and the other is a fatty's belly, the manifest comparison between these two pictures induces readers more easily understand the topic of this article.

Nevertheless, from my angle, the frame of this coverage is too narrow that people will be easily distracted by the advertisement or the hyperlink of other news in the left and right columns. Besides, another confusion of myself is that the hyperlinks of this article for further information are put in the middle of this article, readers will be mislead by these links then go to other news and forget to finish this story!

There's an interaction section of this news, it allows readers to give their comments of this article, in which people can acquaint others' opinions. This is also my favorite section.
